Study of types of Crafts and Gears in fishing
Title :- Study of types of crafts and Gears in fishing.
Crafts :- Crafts provide platform for fishing operation carrying crew & fishing gear.
Gears :- Gears are instruments used for fish catching.
Gill Net :- Gill nets are wall-like nets with floats attached to the head rope & sinkers fixed to the foot rope with mesh opening of varying size with type of fish to be fished. The net is set on transverse direction of migrating fish. The net is made of common hemp fibres but now a days nets are Prepared from synthetic impermeable fibres due to which it is not possible for fishes to see the nets. so, as fishes try to swim through a net wall, the meshes form a noose round its head & they are caught because they get entangled in the fabric mesh. As the fish tries to escape it get stuck up behind operculum hence these nets are generally called "gill nets'. The Various dyes are used to make the net invisible. These nets are used to catch large varieties of fish viz. Seenghala, Pangasius, Silonia, major Carps. This nets fit for fishing in fast current therefore made of strong material with large sized mesh. These nets are left over night. i.e. they are stretched across the river banks & fixed by poles.
The net is hauled up in the morning and the fish entangled are Collected.
Cast Net :-
This is a circular, umbrella, shaped net made up of cotton twine. This is operated from boat. It is skillfully thrown over water, but is held by a rope (hauling line) attached to its center. The net spreads like umbrella over a group of fishes. The Perimeter (circular line), is weighted with sinkers, which increase weight & facilitate (dragging) Sinking the entire net towards bottom. The circumference is inwardly recurved so as to form an inner circular pocket around the Perimeter, this prevents the escape of fish at the time of hauling. When Perimeter touches the bottom, hauling line is pulled to raise the net on board & thus, the trapped fish is collected. The net is used to catched small fish in shore waters or in riverbanks. cast nets are hand operated nets with string or without string.
