Histological Classification of Placenta || Endothelio-chorial placenta

Endothelio-chorial placenta

Here the contact between material and foetal tissues is more advanced. The epithelium of uterus is destructed and the endothelium is naked with its blood vessels. The foetal chorionic epithelium comes in direct contact with the material vessels.

Therefore, at the time of birth, maternal vessels are torn away along with the foetal layers causing destructive separation of placenta. On the other hand, the maternal tissue is left with regenerative zone. The type of relationship between foetus and mother is called the endothelio-chorial and is common with carnivorous mammals.
